  1. The average surface area of an adult is approximately 22 square feet.
  2. Your skin makes up 16% of overall body weight.
  3. Your skin is body’s thermostat. When you’re cold the blood vessels in your skin constrict and widen when you are over heated.
  4. Healthy newborn skin is actually a deep red or purplish color and hands and feet are a blue-ish hue.
  5. Acne is the most common skin condition in the U.S, affecting 40 to 50 million Americans. Did you know that baby acne is really the result of the mother’s hormones that are still in the baby’s blood!
  6. Sleeping with your face buried in your pillow can lead to wrinkles!
  7. There are three layers of the skin: The epidermis, the dermis and subcutis. The subcutis is the innermost layer and is made up of fat and collagen cells. The dermis the middle layer and is responsible for 90% of skin’s thickness. The epidermis is the outermost layer and serves as the protective barrier between the body and the environment.
  8. You shed a shocking amount of skin cells every minute; 30-40,000 skin cells a minute!
